Shoot More Ducks – Let First Ducks Land

We all have been in the duck blind when a large flock is bearing down on our duck decoys. Just when the first ones are about to land we take them and hopefully bag the first couple. However, the ones in the rear of the flock provide difficult shots as they back peddle and elevate from the edge of the spread.

In order to increase your chances of shooting more from this flock, let the first birds land and take the second or third wave as they are about to land. As the last of the flock are about to land take them for the easy shot as they are about to light in the decoys. The birds that already landed will present easy jump shots as they take off from the commotion.

I know that allowing ducks to actually land in the decoys is difficult to train yourself to do, but the rewards are well worth the effort.

Have you ever tried this tactic before?
