I will likely be blogging a fair amount about duck decoy spreads, due to my infatuation with everything being just right. Don't worry, I will only be highlighting the major points that I feel need addressing, not standing on my soap box!
One thing that amazes me is that people will work like crazy to masters their ducks call, but pay little to no attention to their duck decoy spread. In my opinion, your decoy spread is #2 behind being in the right spot in terms of duck hunting success.
In future posts I will touch on decoy patterns, but for today let's just touch on a basic premise. We want our decoy spreads to mimic what we actually see from real birds whenever possible. So for that matter, check out some ducks the next time you are at your local park. Notice how they are kind of randomly spaced around in groups. You want your duck decoy spread to match as closely to this.
